NEW CLASSIFIED ADS IMPROVEMENTS
If you haven't been to the Registry lately, we invite you to check out our
newly upgraded classified ads section. We've dramatically improved both
the appearance and the features of the classifieds. For example, we've
added new keyword searching and boolean options (and/or), along with new
compact tables that allow you to quickly re-sort your search results by
clicking on the column headers. Speaking of quick, we've doubled the speed
of the search engine. We've improved the appearance of almost all pages.
If you preferred the old long-format results tables, they're still
available and have also been dressed up.
The D.C. Registry Classifieds are now the Washington, DC area's largest
free online classifieds. Many new ads are posted each day. This is
especially true of the Housing section, although all sections have seen an
increase in the number of ads posted recently. In fact, we have been
hearing about some success stories. One user recently posted an ad for his
car in both the Washington Post and the D.C. Registry Classifieds. Within
five days, the Post ad resulted in 2 inquiries and no sales. The Registry
ad also resulted in two inquiries, including the ultimate purchaser of the
car. In fact, the second potential buyer who saw the ad in the D.C.
Registry actually offered the seller $500 *more* than he was asking for!
Another user recently informed us that he sold his QuickCam video camera
through the D.C. Registry Classifieds. In other words, our free classified
ads get results.
You can expect even more improvements within the next two weeks or so, as
we roll out several new features. These will include a "Personal Inbox",
which allows you to post personal ads without having to reveal your e-mail
address to viewers or those replying to your ad, and our new Auto-Notify
feature, which will be your personal search agent that will automatically
retrieve and e-mail you once a week the new ads that meet your
pre-defined search criteria.

WASHINGTON, DC TONIGHT
We are proud to announce our new daily events calendar, called Washington,
DC Tonight. Now, you can quickly find out what's happening today in the
metro area in a number of different arts and entertainment categories,
including Classical, Dance, Festivals, Opera, Music, Show, Special, and
Theatre. This events calendar is a joint venture of the Registry and
On-Stage, a web site that we have previously featured as a D.C. Power
Broker and that we believe is the most elegant and comprehensive events
listing site in the DC area. If you've looked at some of the events
listings on the large corporate web sites, we think you'll be pleasantly
surprised by Washington, DC Tonight and On-Stage. We hope you'll find this
daily events calendar to be invaluable enough to be another reason to
bookmark the Registry and to make us your web browser's home page, if you
haven't done so already.
You can always find today's events, listed on Washington, DC Tonight, at
the following URL:

WE'RE HIRING!
Are you a frustrated writer? Would you like to reach a huge audience of
web surfers inside the Beltway and beyond? Would you like to earn some
extra money? If so, we want you. We are looking for intelligent and
articulate writers who would be given control of their very own sections
within the DC Registry. You would be given great freedom over the content
within your section, and would be largely responsible for its structure and
direction. We would also help to drive traffic to your section. If you
needed specialized programming or infrastructure for certain aspects of
your section, we would be willing to provide that as well. You would also
have the opportunity to share in the advertising revenues generated from
advertising contained within your section. In return, you would be
responsible for both the quality and the quantity of the articles in your
section. The more valuable your section is to our viewers, the more
traffic and thus the more revenue you will generate.
We are looking for articles in the following sections:
* Restaurant reviews (within the Washington, DC area)
* Music reviews (local bands, concerts, clubs, etc)
* Other arts and entertainment reviews and/or commentary
* Local sports news and commentary
* Local news and commentary
If you are interested in the opportunity to manage one of these sections,
or if you have any other ideas for different sections, please contact us at
"webmaster@dcregistry.com".
MAKE THE REGISTRY YOUR HOME PAGE
If you haven't already done so, we invite you to make the Registry your
browser's home page so that it comes up
automatically when you first start your browser. We have added a page that
explains how you can do this. The page includes easy to
follow instructions for Netscape (versions 3 and 4) and Internet Explorer
(versions 3 and 4). That way, you can start your day with all of the
latest news, weather, traffic reports, arts and entertainment events, and
other local information from the
Registry. To make us your home page, please go to the following URL:

As always, if you enjoy the Registry, we ask that you please spread the
word! With your help, the D.C. Registry will continue to be the finest
online source for information on the Washington, DC area. Thank you for
being part of Washington's Online Community.
