Top 10 D.C. Area Theaters

Gigi rates the best places to catch a movie in the D.C. area.

10.    Cineplex Odeon Wisconsin Avenue Cinemas - 4000 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. (202) 333-FILM. Well-kept theater with plenty of parking.

9.     Sony Theaters Pentagon City 6 in the Fashion Center/Metro Level, Arlington, VA (703) 415-4333. Location, location, location! Accessible by Metro, you're also able to shop and eat at the Pentagon City Mall.

8.    Arlington Cinema 'N' Drafthouse - 2903 Columbia Pike (1/4 mile east of Glebe Rd.), Arlington, VA (703) 386-2345 and Bethesda Theater Cafe - 7719 Wisconsin Avenue Bethesda, MD (301) 656-3337.Fun places to watch a second-run movie and have a beer.

7.    Multiplex Cinema at the Reston Town Center - Adjacent to the Dulles Toll Rd. (Rt. 267 at Reston Parkway (Exit 12)), Reston, VA (703) 318-1800. Nice screens, and plenty of great restaurants and shops to visit before and after the show.

6.    Cineplex Odeon Outer Circle - 4849 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. (202) 333-FILM #790

5.    Cineplex Odeon Shirlington 7 - 2772 S. Randolph, Arlington, VA (703) 333-FILM #756. Cushy seats, not quite the mainstream movies and some great nearby restaurants make this theater great for a date night out.

4.    Cineplex Odeon White Flint 5 - White Flint Mall, Bethesda, MD (202) 333-FILM #785. This theater can get crowded but with all the other nearby attractions, including Dave and Buster's and the shopping at the White Flint Mall, this is a good location.

3.    AMC Union Station 9 - Washington, D.C. Metro:  Red Line (202) 998-4AMC. Although the screens are a bit on the small side, Union Station with its great restaurants and bars nearby puts it on my list.

2.     United Artists Bethesda - 7272 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD (301) 718-4323. Although you have to pay to park, UA's 8 screens and tops of the first run selection edges out White Flint for spot # 2 on Gigi's list. A young, hip crowd.

1.     Cineplex Odeon Uptown - 3426 Connecticut Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. (202) 333-FILM#799 (1/2 block south of Cleveland Park Metro on the Red Line)

Movies are a bit pricey here but since it's been refurbished, the Uptown has, once again, become THE place to see a great movie.  Watching a movie in the balcony is a great treat that most modern multiplexes just don't provide.
