The Virginians Old West Shooting Society is a Cowboy Action Shooting club in Virginia. The club is not yet officially affiliated with the Single Action Shooting Society, though all the members are SASS and NRA members. The Virginians' shootout competitions closely follow the spirit and the letter of SASS competitions. The Virginians also compete in other SASS events. The Virginians keep a rope with a noose thrown over a tree for any bushwackers who try to defeat the antiquarian spirit of the events. Anybody trying to use double-actions or semiautos, or speedloaders and such will git strung up. We'll let you have adjustable sights on your smokewagon, but you will be ostracized from polite society for it. You have to have the authentic clothes and equipment, and go easy on those homeloaded cartridges.

Bring the real shooting irons. Any self-respecting cowpoke will have a single-action Colt, Smith and Wesson, or Remington designed in the 1870's. Percussion revolvers are OK, but you will not win with one. Some copies, such as the modern Schofields, Ruger Vacqueros, and the Italian Colt copies are acceptable.
Lever-action rifles and carbines in the handgun calibers are acceptable. Double-barrel shotguns are the refined shooter's implement. The Winchester 1897 pump is allowed.

Bring the real clothes. We'll give you some ideas on where to get them. The things that are non-authentic and will get you run out of town include: athletic shoes, modern feathered cowboy hats, short sleeves, and so on.
Ladies are welcome. They often are the more deadly pistoleras.
