Want to add some pizazz to your page and get rewarded at the same time? Then "steal" one of the buttons above and add it to your page as a link back to the Washington, DC Registry! If you do, let us know, and you will get the
A link to the page on your site where the button appears will be added to our script that randomly rotates prominent links to "button sites" on the front page of the Registry. Since we receive over 300,000 visitors (and
over 3 million hits) per month, your site will be prominently linked on the Registry's front page many times each day. What an easy way to build traffic!
A link to the page on your site where the button appears will also be added to our "button sites" page.
And, when we implement our new Search DC! database in the next few months, sites that display our button will be given preference in the search engine so that they come out on top when people get their search results. Given our large
number of visitors, this means that your site will see a dramatic increase in traffic by being a "button site".
We may also add "button sites" to our advertising banner rotation when we have excess ad capacity.
We may also give "button sites" extra credits and displays in the Washington Banner Network when we have excess ad capacity.
Place your mouse over the button and right-click on it. From the pop-up menu, choose "Save Image As..." From the pop-up dialogue box, choose a directory and file name (such as DCRANIM.GIF for the animated button on the
right), then click on "OK".

If you are not using Netscape or Internet Explorer, or the above directions don't work for some reason, you most likely can still download the button. In your browser's "Get URL", "Navigate", or "Go
to" command, type in one of the following URLs:

The button should now appear by itself on the page. From your browser's menu, look for "Save" or "Save As". It may be under the "File" menu. If you are using a text-based browser such as Lynx and want to
download the button, type in one of the URLs listed above and download or mail it to yourself using your browser's standard commands.
Once you have downloaded the button, you need to upload it to your web server. Typically, you would do this by using an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program. Popular FTP programs for the Windows operating system include WS_FTP
(http://www.wsftp.com) and CuteFTP (http://www.cuteftp.com). Other FTP programs are also available for the Windows, Macintosh, and Linux operating systems. Depending on where your web site is stored, you may be able to use other methods
to upload the button to your web server, such as by using Frontpage or the web page editing program or web site provided by your web hosting company.
Once you have downloaded the button and uploaded it to your web server, you can add it to your site as a link back to the Registry by using the following HTML. This example assumes that you have stored the button file in the same
directory on your web server as the directory in which the page is stored that you want to place the button on. This example also assumes that you have named the button file "dcranim.gif". If that is not the case, the HTML
will have to be adjusted accordingly. Here is the HTML that you should use:
<a href="http://dcregistry.com"><img src="dcranim.gif" border=0 width=120 height=40 alt="Washington, DC Registry"></a>
If you have done it correctly, it should look like this on your page (using the animated GIF on the right above as the example):
Thank you very much, and good luck! Once you have downloaded the button and added it to your site as a link back to the Registry, let us know, and we'll give you all of
the benefits described above, including being featured prominently on the Registry's front page. If you have any questions about downloading or displaying the button, please do not hesitate to e-mail the Registry. Thank you for your interest!
